Kei Kaisendon at Suntec City Mall - Japanese Sashimi Don with a Variety of Options If you're craving a good sashimi don in the heart of Singapore's business district, Kei Kaisendon at Suntec City Mall is a solid choice. This small outlet, tucked away in the bustling mall, offers a wide range of sashimi bowls and other Japanese dishes, catering to those who enjoy fresh seafood and a casual dining experience. Compact but Popular One thing to note about Kei Kaisendon at Suntec City Mall is its size—it's quite compact compared to some of the other eateries in the mall. This can be a double-edged sword, as it creates an intimate atmosphere, but it also means that during lunch hours, seating can be a challenge and everyone seems very packed together. If you're late or arrive during peak times, expect a wait. The space constraints can also impact service; when it's busy, getting the staff's attention might require a bit of patience. Don't be shy about reminding them of any missed items in your order, especially if you have a set meal with multiple components. Quality and Taste The quality of the food is generally consistent with other Kei Kaisendon outlets. The sashimi is fresh, and the portion sizes are decent. You can choose from a variety of bowls, with options that range from classic sashimi dons to those with cooked toppings like unagi (grilled eel) or chicken teriyaki. One of the recent additions to the menu is the choice of a combi of udon and mini dons, which is a great alternative for those who prefer noodles or smaller portions. Despite the consistent quality, it's worth noting that prices have crept up since this chain first opened. While it's still a good value compared to more upscale Japanese restaurants, you'll need to be prepared to spend a bit more than before. Nonetheless, given the variety and freshness of the ingredients, it's worth it if you're in the mood for a satisfying Japanese meal. Service and Experience Service at Kei Kaisendon is generally friendly, but as mentioned, it can get a bit hectic when the restaurant is crowded. The staff do their best to accommodate everyone, but don't hesitate to speak up if you need something. The small space means there's not much ambiance to speak of, but if you're there for the food, that's not likely to be a dealbreaker. Overall Recommendation Kei Kaisendon at Suntec City Mall is a good spot for a quick and tasty sashimi don, especially if you're in the area and don't mind spending a bit for quality. The variety of options, including udon and mini dons, gives you flexibility, and the freshness of the sashimi is a big plus. Just be prepared for a potentially busy lunch hour and a slightly higher price point than in the past. If you can work around those factors, you're in for a satisfying Japanese meal.

Sashimi is fresh and don is good. The portion may look small but actually is quite filling. The restaurant is small. If you have a stroller or wheelchair it may be a bit inaccessible.

I have a great fondness for chirashi dons and have eaten s lot of them in Singapore, in Japan and when we travel. Ones of the problems with Japanese don is the lack of green vegetables, so we were pleasantly surprised to see a kaisen don place that promised free soup and salad. As it turns out, it's the set menu. Same ala carte menu but instead of $22.90 for the large signature kaisendon, you pay $24.95 for the same don, miso soup, salad, green tea and a grilled prawn. My wife paid the same for an unagi kaisendon which is $21.90 ala carte. Still a good deal. The tea, soup and salad came out first. All pretty okay and the soup was nice and hot. The grilled prawns came later with quite a bit of mayonnaise and some fish roe on top. A bit too much mayo but the prawn was delicious. Perfectly grilled with a smoky taste complementing the sweetness of the prawn. My signature kaisendon was a big plate with lots of chopped sashimi. Pieces were nice and large enough to have a good taste of the fish. There was ginger and a small ball of wasabi on the side. Unfortunately a big chunk of seaweed on top which was a bit wet and didn't really add to the taste of the rice. Fish wasn't as fresh as other places but okay. I had a slice of my wife's unagi. There was only 3 pieces of unagi which looked quite sad in the bowl. Rest of them seafood probably similar to mine. Overall I can't give more than 3.5 stars to the dons, but upped it to 4 stars because of the prawn. But not good enough for me to want to return.
