Beautiful Lai Grilled Fish (赖美丽藤椒烤鱼) represents the sophisticated evolution of Sichuan cuisine, bringing the sister brand of acclaimed Tai Er to Suntec City's basement level at #B1-111. This vibrant restaurant specialises in Sichuan Fresh Pepper Grilled Fish, featuring the prized Jiangtuan fish from the Yangtze River, prepared with freshly picked Sichuan peppers that create the perfect balance of numbing spice and aromatic complexity that defines authentic Sichuan cooking.
The signature offering centers around their meticulously prepared grilled fish, available in four distinct flavour profiles: Green Pepper (S$55), Spicy (S$56), Cheese Tomato (S$58), and Crab Roe & Garlic (S$58). Each generous portion comfortably serves two to three diners, with the premium Leiocassis fish achieving the perfect contrast of crispy exterior and delicately tender interior. The restaurant's décor fusion of retro and modern elements, complete with bright red street signs and branded cutlery, creates an energetic atmosphere where enthusiastic servers welcome guests with cheerful slogans.
Beyond their renowned grilled fish, Beautiful Lai offers adventurous diners unique additions like Fried Spicy Bullfrog (S$36) featuring succulent frog meat tossed with fragrant Chinese spices and peppercorn, alongside comfort sides including Salted Egg Prawn Tofu and Brown Sugar Mochi. Operating from 11:30am-2pm and 5pm-9pm on weekdays (extended to 11:30am-9pm on weekends), this popular establishment often requires an hour's wait due to its growing reputation among Singapore's Sichuan cuisine enthusiasts and loyal followers of the Tai Er brand.

The $36++ lunch set for 2 pax (available until 5pm weekends) offers solid value. The star is the green chili grilled fish (kao yu): properly dry rubbed and grilled before immersion in that intoxicating broth, it was fragrant with surprise red onions and warm spices that lend an almost curry-like aroma—addictive paired with rice, though leaning a little too oily. The seasoned mushrooms were earthy and well-seasoned, a simple but satisfying side.
Skip the lamb skewers, was hungry and wanted a little extra, they’re pricey, lean, and lack plump juiciness. Service impressed: one solowaiter effectivly managed the entire dining room during our 3pm weekend visit with warmth and efficiency. A great option for flavorful, shareable Sichuan-inspired fare in Suntec, especially if you prioritize the fish set and don’t mind the oiliness.

I agree with other reviews that this is one of the best grilled fish in Singapore! The fish is delicate and fresh and it’s not greasy. The fish skin is fat and crispy. The green pepper flavor is nicely spicy (note it’s very different from their competitor if you’re thinking of the same taste).
Service was ok, similar to Taier branches that I visited.
We visited on a Friday night around 630pm. No reservation and can easily walk in for 2 pax.
Highly recommend!

We ordered the half green pepper fish and it was perfect for sharing between two people. The fish was incredibly fresh and tender, with a bold, spicy kick and that numbing sensation definitely one for spice lovers. If you have a low spice tolerance, consider yourself warned. We also tried the coconut fried chicken as a side dish, it had a light, crispy batter. The coconut flavor was subtle, it still made for a satisfying bite.

We had to get a queue number, and the waiting area didn't have many chairs, so we had to wait for other customers to be seated before we could even sit down to wait for our table. Once seated, the ordering process was through a QR code. We ordered the sour spicy fish. The prawn with mustard sauce was a bit overwhelming; the flavour of the mustard was so strong that I couldn't take a second bite. The grilled fish was alright. They do have a nice option of free flow hot drinks (roselle and tangerine peel) which you can help yourself to.
